A great honour will be bestowed on me

I and jlms have been asked to be sponsors for a beautiful little girl who will be baptized in the near future. Well, baptisms always are in the near future, aren't they? I don't know why this makes us so happy. Perhaps it is because we have no children of our own? But we have lots of nieces and nephews...

Anyhow, we shall certainly strive to spoil and support this little girl in the future. Not that she will need much support, my confidence in her parents is high.

Grattis! Standing as godparents is always a lovely thing to happen, although so many don't take the responsibility seriously, so I'm glad that you both are pleased for this situation and I'm sure both of you and the little girl will benefit over the years.

Being asked to be a sponsor is such an honour, though -- becoming an aunt (or even a parent) is a biological thing that can happen to pretty much anybody, deserving or not, but being asked to be godparents means that the kid's parents think we are Good People. And I don't mind that much.

I look forward to getting to know her! First time she met me, she looked at me and wept, but I don't take that personally :-)
