Nov. 26th, 2004 10:02 amA bit sleepy, I haven't had my coffee yet. I grew up as a confirmed tea drinker, sort of. What we drank was Lipton's Yellow Label tea bags, which I as an adult have ceased to view as tea. I can't even force down the stuff any longer. I realized a few years ago that the peculiar untealike taste of Lipton's Yellow Label is rosehip. I doubt that powdered rosehip actually forms part of the stuff, but the taste is very similar. And heavily watered rosehip soup is not something I willingly drink instead of tea.
Here in the office, there is something resembling tea culture. I say resembling, because we get weekly deliveries of loose tea leaves in bags from the local tea shop, but unfortunately people's tastes run towards perfumed teas. You know, the stuff with dried flowers and fruits in them. I'm not allergic, but when I open one of those bags I'm almost seized with an attack. Phew. I'd drink a lot more tea here if there was more proper tea around.
However, when I finished university and started working at 25, I quickly discovered first that the vile black stuff was much better for the purpose of staying awake (or waking up!), and then that it isn't so vile after all. I'm still not addicted to caffeine after 15 years, I'm addicted to tea, but at least I like coffee now. I like coffee and I adore cardamom Turkish coffee and Italian espresso. And I normally need a cup of the black stuff in the morning to get started.
That cup is coming soon.
