Expensive discovery process

We're in the process of swapping our land-line phones for mobile phones at work, so for the first time in my life I have a telephone that can do miraculous stuff like taking pictures, downloading stuff from the Internet, playing music and more. Where do they get all their mad ideas from?

So here I am sitting and trying out the different functions, switching ringtones, typing in www.apple.com to see what happens, sending a yay SMS to [livejournal.com profile] jlms, understanding how to do advanced stuff like using it for making and receiving phone calls etc. Then I log on to the operator's website and discover that I now owe them 2 euros for texting and downloading from the web. That is not included in what the company pays for. Hilarious! ;)

Actually, the Internet functionality is supposed to be disabled I was told later, so I figure I won't actually have to pay, but I still thought it was amusing. "Here's your new work phone, learn to use it. Good, now we'll make a deduction from your paycheck."

Tonight I'll be off to William's for our monthly fannish pub meeting. The 124th consecutive one. Gosh. Pictures from previous ones here and here.
