Who ordered rain? The forecast for the next five days was dry as a mummified mouse. And now it pours. Whoever you are, own up.

I'd like to know that too. There I was, busy enjoying the first few days of proper spring weather when not half an hour ago that nice young man on the news just ups and announces a week of rain, starting with Saturday. Which I wouldn't mind given the local dams are only 56% full except I know that what we will almost certainly get is one decent day worth of rain spread across six or seven.

At least your rain is announced (and surely rain belongeth to the Spring? - hmm, is there a modified Chaucer for the southern hemisphere?

Whan that Octobre with his shoures soote,
The droghte of Septembre hath perced to the roote

ahh, I see the problem, the downpour isn't supposed to come until October!) but having seven misty, drizzly days (shift d to g there!) instead of a good shower and then sun is of course irritating.

True, the rain is announced, but at very short notice. Nobody said anything about rain several days ago when I was busy making plans for next week. I have things planned which I won't enjoy nearly as much if it is wet and it's too late to change my plans now. I am not impressed.

Why did you do this to me? Now I couldn't mow the lawn.

I didn't know it was going to hurt you. Honest. So for that I'm sorry -- not for the rain itself even though in hind-sight it was a bad idea: I got a cold.

Shortly after I moved to Brisbane in 1996 I gave my car a well needed wash. What started the following day was torrential downpour that lasted day and night for 10 days until it was the worst floods the city had seen for 25 years with most of the suburbs cut off. And the incessant sound of rain on the roof 24/7 almost drove me insane!

In the end I had to admit culpability... and never washed my car in that city again.
