What have I done today? Dragged out the bicycle after the winter hibernation and pumped up the tyres, and then took it for a ride to the shop to buy groceries for dinner. Cooked dinner, a simple chicken-mushroom risotto, which turned out well. Chopped an onion and a few mushrooms and fried lightly, threw in the rice and then added chicken stock & white wine. Boiled for 20 minutes and stirred with some grated parmesan cheese.

Not much more than that. Yesterday a friend of ours and colleague of [livejournal.com profile] jlms's defended her thesis, on gender-related terms in English-language texts from the period 1670–1720. I missed the defence itself - I was dead tired after last week and really needed the sleep, but the party afterwards in the evening was good fun and superb food. There are some excellent people working at the English Department here, and the discussions at our table ranged over matters like metathesis in Middle English texts, the works of Philip K. Dick, and the aesthetics of three-piece suits. Terribly conservative and academic, I know. ;)

Mmmmmm.

You should have made twice as much of that risotto. 'Twas yummy.
